Flying Rodeo

Spectators and fans go to rodeos for the action, adventure and entertainment they provide. Numerous things come to mind when rodeo’s entertainment factor is mentioned – bulls, broncs, barrels and of course, the specialty acts.

Specialty acts always play a big role in the entertainment package many people associate with today’s professional rodeo. Rodeo committees continually request the best entertainers available to excite and thrill their hometown crowds. Charros, trick riders, mounted drill teams, clowns, horse acts, motorcycle daredevils, and more vie to become audience favorites. For more information, click here.

Mutton Bustin'

Local kids have a unique opportunity to try their hand at some real rodeo action, riding a mutton (sheep) in the rodeo arena. The event is open to all children ages 5 to 7, weighing under 60 pounds. Each chosen contestant will have a chance to perform in one of our Rodeo events held during the four days of rodeo fun June 1st – 4th, 2023. A custom made silver belt buckle will be presented to the daily winner. For more information, click here.

Beard-A-Reno

1 of 2

The festivities for the 80th Annual Elks Rodeo will kick off with the time-honored tradition of the Beard-A-Reno Contest. According to this year’s Chairman, Chuck Biely, entrants may enter the contest at the Elks Rodeo Office, located at 2325 Skyway Drive, Suite H in Santa Maria.

A custom-made silver belt buckle will be awarded to the winners of the 7 ‘whisker’ growing categories, which include: Longest Beard, Blackest Beard, Whitest Beard, Reddest Beard, Best Mustache, Best Attempt, and Best All-Around. For more information, click here.

Elks Team Roping

Entrants will be required to show proof of a valid Elks membership card. All entrants must be a member of one of the West Central Coast Elks Lodges and current on membership dues. Both team members must sign a release of liability. The entry fee is $200.00 per team. Entries are limited to two Elks members or a member with their wife, child or grandchild, age 18 or younger.

Any Elk Heeler, 55 or older, can tie on. PRCA and Elks Team Ropers may only compete in one of the team roping events – NOT BOTH, unless they are a PRCA Gold Card Holder. For more information, click here.

Stick Horse Racing

Our presenting sponsor, Santa Maria Pediatric Dental Group, invite all children between the ages of 4 and 5 to try their hand at some rodeo action by participating in the Wrangler Stick Horse Race in the Rodeo Arena prior to the start of the PRCA Rodeo performance on all four days of the 2023 Elks Rodeo, Thursday, June 1st – Sunday, June 4th.

Sixty riders will be chosen overall, with 15 competing each day. All contestants will receive a “goodie” bag and two General Admission Rodeo tickets (1 adult and 1 child) for the day the child is competing. Contestants will be given a number that they must wear to gain entry into the arena. All contestants will be allowed one person inside the arena to assist with their ride. There is no charge to enter the race. For more information, click here.
